LSD Addiction

Since the time of civilization humans have particularly appreciated all things shiny!
Gold has captured the minds and hearts of men and women from as long back as Ancient Egypt. Cut to present we all swoon over a shiny silver Aston Martin.
Her highness Marliyn Monroe in the red sequined number from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes or King of Pop Michael Jackson in that black sequined jacket and white gloves is nothing less than fairytale classic.

Closer home no Indian man has skipped this vision from Dostana.

So, take a break Little Black Dress aka LBD, it is time for the LSD aka Little Sequined Dress. Also with the holiday season around the corner, choose to ring in this New Year glammed.

Sequined dresses have so much magic, to me they seem like suits made for a fierce mermaid. If you want to break away from your sweet and nice image, I prescribe to you ladies the LSD. The style is fun, bold, brazen, playful and very wicked. Though the men might not be able to comprehend the amount of shine in one square unit they will never ignore a little glam-dom.

D dos
There are so many choices for you in the LSD. Depending on your style and comfort you can pick from either of these- tube, one shoulder, cap sleeved or full sleeved. You can pair it with a monochrome jacket or black stockings. May your first LSD be in shades of gold, black or silver.
For shoes I will suggest plain black peep toes or pumps.

D donts

Do not accessorise much with this style because the dress brings a lot of drama in itself. Those beaded danglers and chunky bangles is truly unpleasant. But if you still choose jewellery make it one bangle.
Teaming the LSD with coloured stockings is so wrong!
No flashy shoes please.

This is a fail because
The high rise umbrella cut doesn't work for Ameesha Patel's body. It looks like a fancy tent. Be very aware of a style or cut that suits your body type best.
Footwear- an error has occurred. No-No to strappy sandals, knee length boots or ankle length boots.

Thanks all for reading :)

Signing off in the words of Her awesomeness Lady Gaga "And now, I'm just trying to change the world, one sequin at a time".

Sari Affair

For an Indian girl, a sari is a chic and safe choice for very many occasions. I have a love affair with saris, so much that I ve once worn it to a pub.
A lot of people have asked me about a look I recently tried - 'The Pin-up Drape'. I will also add that its a very Pin-up girl style because a friend of mine said it reminded him of Princess Leia from Star Wars!! :)
So here I am to D-Code it for you!

Sari -
My super awesome tailor made my sari.
We picked two different pieces of cloth from Thakurdas ChoithramNo 173 A, Near LIC, Anna Salai, Mount Road, Chennai - 600002. Both tissue, one dull silver and the other sheer with patterns in purple. You can pick two materials that are soft and place it together in such a way they flatter your body.

D SecretPlace a decorative corner near the back like this to show-off your Indian assets!

Detailing at the borders of the sari will help synchronise the complete look.

I found some celebrity styles you can DIY.
Do not convert any of the above to a Pin-up drape. They are saris that you can do yourself using some help of a trusted tailor.

And here is what you should not do!!
Because
  • Both the drapes chosen are competing for most glitter! Chose one fabric that is less flashy.
  • There might have been a lil' hope if there was no patchwork around the waist. Keep your design hassle-free because stitching together fabric for 5 yards is bound to cause unevenness.
  • And I detest lavender!
Also try these places for interesting drapes
Nalli Silks
T Nagar, 9, Nageswaran road, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Nalli 100

The blouse -
For my blouse I took a piece of cloth to my tailor at Beads, 13, 2nd Main Road, Kasturibai NagarAdyar Chennai600020 , Tamil Nadu.
With the wide range of designs they had, I picked a no fuss design.
Say -Princess cut - button back with belts as sleeves.
If you are fond of drama you could make a very sleek belted back and place a brooch where the buttons meet.

Accessories -
The Brooch maketh the pin-up drape! I went looking for a brooch and failed miserably!
D Secret - I decided to look for Blingy things on the streets of Pondy bazaar! Ta daa I found a circular hair accessory with white shiny rhinestons inset which I now conveniently use as a brooch! So go looking for interesting hair accessories instead.

Yes Brooch

No to this. Remember less is more.

You can try a pin-up look with these.

Pin-up drape gone bad
Why because
  • Black, Silver, Gold, Stripes, Flower motifs, dots, blah, blah - so many colours and designs!!!
  • The sari seems too heavy for the brooch.
  • And its not even a nice brooch!
Footwear -
D secret - Never Never, Never wear a sari with wedge heels or block heels. Definitely skip those flats too! Dressy stilettos are things for you!

And this is me in a Pin-up drape. I hope my blog was useful and you try this look soooon!

Till then I will be watching for people around me sporting a celebrity style and I will decode it for all to see here on D Code!
Ta Taa :)
Love!
