For an Indian girl, a sari is a chic and safe choice for very many occasions. I have a love affair with saris, so much that I ve once worn it to a pub.
A lot of people have asked me about a look I recently tried - 'The Pin-up Drape'. I will also add that its a very Pin-up girl style because a friend of mine said it reminded him of Princess Leia from Star Wars!! :)
So here I am to D-Code it for you!
Sari -
My super awesome tailor made my sari.
We picked two different pieces of cloth from Thakurdas Choithram, No 173 A, Near LIC, Anna Salai, Mount Road, Chennai - 600002. Both tissue, one dull silver and the other sheer with patterns in purple. You can pick two materials that are soft and place it together in such a way they flatter your body.
And here is what you should not do!!
Because
Nalli Silks
T Nagar, 9, Nageswaran road, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Nalli 100
T Nagar, 100, Nageswaran road, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
The blouse -
For my blouse I took a piece of cloth to my tailor at Beads, 13, 2nd Main Road, Kasturibai Nagar, Adyar , Chennai- 600020 , Tamil Nadu.
With the wide range of designs they had, I picked a no fuss design.
Say -Princess cut - button back with belts as sleeves.
If you are fond of drama you could make a very sleek belted back and place a brooch where the buttons meet.
Accessories -
The Brooch maketh the pin-up drape! I went looking for a brooch and failed miserably!
D Secret - I decided to look for Blingy things on the streets of Pondy bazaar! Ta daa I found a circular hair accessory with white shiny rhinestons inset which I now conveniently use as a brooch! So go looking for interesting hair accessories instead.
Yes Brooch
No to this. Remember less is more.
You can try a pin-up look with these.
Pin-up drape gone bad
Why because
D secret - Never Never, Never wear a sari with wedge heels or block heels. Definitely skip those flats too! Dressy stilettos are things for you!
And this is me in a Pin-up drape. I hope my blog was useful and you try this look soooon!
Till then I will be watching for people around me sporting a celebrity style and I will decode it for all to see here on D Code!
Ta Taa :)
Love!

Detailing at the borders of the sari will help synchronise the complete look.
I found some celebrity styles you can DIY.
Do not convert any of the above to a Pin-up drape. They are saris that you can do yourself using some help of a trusted tailor.

And here is what you should not do!!
Because
- Both the drapes chosen are competing for most glitter! Chose one fabric that is less flashy.
- There might have been a lil' hope if there was no patchwork around the waist. Keep your design hassle-free because stitching together fabric for 5 yards is bound to cause unevenness.
- And I detest lavender!

Pin-up drape gone bad
Why because
- Black, Silver, Gold, Stripes, Flower motifs, dots, blah, blah - so many colours and designs!!!
- The sari seems too heavy for the brooch.
- And its not even a nice brooch!

Man you should be a columnist for one of the magazines
Love what you've written :) .. you should definitely do more...
What kind of tissue are you using? Silk tissue or synthetic tissue...and tissue as a fabric adds a lot of sheer and drama to outfit.
and did you use tissue for the blouse too??
Hey, Lakshmi !!! You made my day!! I hope I get to write for magazines soon!!
Writer Unleashed, thanks so much... I will write more:) I ve used synthetic tissue. If you have a costly taste you should go for silk tissue.
